EVALUATION OF HYDROPONIC FODDER PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF SORGHUM

The hydroponic fodder yield performance evaluation of different varities sorghum was conducted in green house Wollega University.. Three experiments were conducted. first to observe effects irrigation frequency. second one undertaken evaluate four varieties (Lalo, Chemeda, Gamadi and Dano) on yield, related components nutritive values. third experiment done determine the appropriate date harvest for biomass agronomic traits. Complete randomized design (CRD) employed conduct with three replications. results showed that there no significant difference (p>0.05) between treatments Dry matter (t/ha), Leaf Weight Root weight (t/ha) Plant height (cm) as effect frequency watering at 2hr, 3hr 4hr interval but, (p<0.05) among sorghums an Fresh yield(t/ha), leaf root ratio (LRR%).The lowest average fresh yields harvested 7th days after planting consistently increased until 17th planting. highest plant heights observed 17 while harvesting. Except dry (DM), Ash crude protein (CP), differences (P<0.05) neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid (ADF), lignin (ADL) vitro digestibility contents varieties. Sorghum variety, contained CP (13.29%) Acid contents. Chemeda best DM (73.24%). Harvesting gave LRR (cm); showing increase time harvesting increases. Among tested a Dano others.
